How often in our lives do we get the privilege of seeing greatness. In my lifetime I have seen man walk on the moon, watched Muhammad Ali become the greatest, witnessed Carl Lewis win 9 Gold Medals, Watched Mark Spitz win 7 in one Olympics, Coached our two winning-est Olympians MacDonald and Ferguson, watched Michael Schumacher become the greatest F1 driver, been completely awed by the career of Tiger Woods, Pete Sampras, Boris Becker and Bjorn Borg, couldn't help being blown away by the skill and sublime talent of Michael Jordan, Diego Maradonna, Ronaldinho, and the end of the career of my personal sporting hero Pele - the greatest soccer player of all time.
Then this week we are treated to something very special - a young man who is able to churn out world records and Olympic Gold Medals - six of each (at time of writing). Michael Phelps it is a privilege to watch you blitz the world. You are a benchmark and you have won more gold medals in the last five days than New Zealand has won in the last four Olympics. What will week two bring.
