Switch On

Ever gone home from work and tried to turn work off, tried to forget about the office? If I was a betting man I would bet a substantial amount of dosh on the fact that you failed miserably to turn work off. It is impossible to turn it off.

Right now as you read this, don't think about an orange, a big fat juicy orange - ahhhh! its impossible isn't it? The moment you see the word orange you think of an orange. The more I mention the word orange the harder it is to not think about it.

This is the same as work - every time you try to turn work off you are actually focusing on work and reinforcing the word work, hence not being able to turn it off.

So what do you do to take your mind off work - simple - SWITCH ON to other things. Switch on to your family or your tennis game or your swim, or the after work picnic you are going on with your children.

When you get in your car start switching your brain and thoughts ON immediately to what it is you are going to do. By doing this you will reduce your thoughts about work and allocate those thoughts to a holding pen in your mind somewhere. You wont completely stop thinking about work, the thoughts however will minimize and not be as dominant.

You can also you the switch on at work to turn your attention to a particular task, meeting, person, product etc. Switch on to the things that are important and give them eye and mind contact - this will increase your productivity and your efficiency.

Now where is that Orange?
